Week 2 Blog - Wiki Reflection

Lets start off with WOW!

What a great idea of placing a different thinking hat on to come up with ranging answers from all different perspectives. This week's wiki topic involving the DeBono's Hats response was one I have never heard of before. Interestingly enough I'm glad I have experienced it first hand as I LOVED IT!!!! This was one activity I will definitely use to my advantage in the future.

I found the characteristics of the task were heavily scaffolded in design. Which for someone like myself  it lead me to a greater understanding of what was required. Although I did attempt all of the hats... not realising we only had to choose one :/ SILLY ME!
With every hat I put on, I felt this forum reflected on a combination of several learning theories:
- Behaviourism
- Connectivism
- Constructivism
- Cognitivism

I felt it drew on all these theories for different reasons. Chunking drawn from the constructivism theory, cognitivism due to the mental processing after each hat was taken off, behaviourism for when our bias view might come in to play (reinforcing the different hats) and lastly the connectivism from simply connecting through our peers responses and finding ourselves through our own knowledge.

Due to the activity being clearly scaffolded, the structure of the DeBono's Hats task could be used collectively as a group or working as individuals. It provided a collaborative approach to learning where you can view your peers thoughts and expressions, all from different perspectives. Adding to those thoughts with their own concept of the task. The activity was also chunked, directing you to not just oversee the whole topics agenda but experience it from different points of view. This exercise would therefore contribute greatly to students learning. Its such a simple scaffolded task yet with so much more technical aspects underlying within. I for one will be using this task amongst my future classroom and students!
